A story from one of our donors

Roger and Marcia Beutner are among many Grand Rapids Symphony friends that have designated the orchestra in their estate plan. Their provision of a legacy gift helps assure the Symphony’s future. Estate gifts like the Beutner’s will be directed to the Endowment Fund where they provide perpetual support for the orchestra’s artistic programs and educational services.

Roger and Marcia Beutner joined the Symphony family over 30 years ago. Concert attendance lead to Marcia’s Grand Rapids Symphony’s Women’s Committee service, followed by eleven years on the orchestra’s Board of Directors. Friends, relationships and great memories resulted. Marcia commented that “she received great satisfaction from her participation. We've gotten so much more back than we gave!”

Like others wishing to give back to the community through their personal resources, Roger and Marcia planned ahead for retirement and created a trust. Roger explained, “We determined the institutions that are most important to us and added a simple statement to our trust document.” They asked themselves a straightforward question, “How do you enhance the causes that have touched your life?”

They answered that question based on this philosophical attitude,” We enjoy an orchestra that we inherited from others; the leaders that came before us. It enhances our community and enriches our lives. We feel that investing in the Symphony is a responsibility and it gives us great pleasure. We hope our leadership is followed by others.”
