The Rumsey Street Bazaar, a marketplace of unique wares and unusual entertainment experiences, opens today in Grand Rapids with a bouquet of aromas and a banquet of tastes plus a David Bowie tribute and a fashion event of wearable art by New York designer Brad Callahan, aka BCalla.
See outrageous fashions, hear live music and play games at the three-day bazaar dubbed “Classics Remixed,” organized by the Grand Rapids Symphony Women’s Committee.

Daytime events for the whole family include science and music projects and activities and interactive musical experiences including live music featuring the Grand Rapids Symphony musicians.
Shop for unusual, uncommon and unexpected merchandise – vintage clothiers, fashion, jewelry and upscale resale – at the bazaar in a repurposed former auto repair shop in the neighborhood of Rumsey Street SW and Grandville Avenue SW, which SiTE:LAB occupied as an outdoor exhibition during ArtPrize 2015.
Nothing will be more unusual at the Rumsey Street Bazaar than the “wearable art” by Callahan, who has designed for such entertainers as Lady Gaga and who dressed Miley Cyrus and 31 drag queens for last year’s Video Music Awards.
Callahan has a creative aesthetic that’s a mash-up of skin-tight, S&M apparel with futuristic silhouettes to create unisex designs inspired by an urban narrative.
Grand Rapids’ Richard App Galleries also will be among artists displaying work during the benefit bazaar.
Enjoy restaurants paired with the finest in craft beer from local breweries. Family games, a Founders Beer Garden for happy hour shopping, and an interactive musical sculpture called a Laser Harp will be part of the Rumsey Street Bazaar.
