GRS Horn Section Performs for Hope Lodge Cancer Patients

Music can be inspirational, encouraging and spiritual. It can also provide a comforting soundtrack for cancer patients and their loved ones.

On Monday, July 27 the Grand Rapids Symphony Horn Section presented a private performance at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge Center. Peter and BJ Whigham, who are active volunteers at Hope Lodge and sponsor the Assistant Principal Horn chair occupied by Erich Peterson, arranged for the concert. A combination of residents and Hope Lodge volunteers were in attendance.

The horn section showcased the full scope and range of the instrument, beginning with traditional classical pieces, including selections from Handel's "Water Music." They then branched out into jazz and swing pieces. The music brought something special to the atmosphere of hope, compassion and friendship surrounding Hope Lodge.
