Legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald was renowned for her pure tone and her impeccable diction, but most of all for her improvisational scat singing. The Grand Rapids Symphony celebrates the 100th anniversary of her birth at Symphony with Soul. Guest singers Harolyn Blackwell, Aisha de Haas and Nova Payton join the Grand Rapids Symphony to sing many of Ella Fitzgerald’s biggest hits including How High the Moon, I Got Rhythm, Summertime, A-Tisket, A-Tasket, Satin Doll, Bewitched and It Don’t Mean A Thing, If It Ain’t Got That Swing on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018. Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt leads the orchestra and Grand Rapids Symphony Community Chorus, directed by Duane Shields Davis, in the 17th annual celebration of multicultural music in DeVos Performance Hall.
