Description:

Adam Schoenberg Canto
Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1
Dvořák Symphony No. 8

Marcelo Lehninger Conductor  | Rafał Blechacz Piano - 2014 Gilmore Artist

‘Canto’ as a verb, translated from the Italian, can mean:, “I sing” and these concerts are full of one beautiful melodic invention after another. You may not yet know the work of the young American composer Adam Schoenberg (no relation to the forbidding Arnold!) but after these concerts you might just join his legions of fans across America and beyond. Possessed of a considerable lyrical gift, Schoenberg is one of the most sought after thirty-somethings of today. The composer has written this work to honor the birth of his first child, Luca, to whom Schoenberg is writing lullabies on a nearly daily basis.

The poetic genius Frederic Chopin was one of the greatest pianists who ever lived. Polish-born Rafał Blechacz, the first pianist to win every award at the International Chopin Piano Competition, makes his Grand Rapids Symphony debut playing Chopin’s piano concerto in E minor.
