Thank you for your support of the Grand Rapids Symphony.  We hope this communication finds you and your loved ones healthy and well. As we committed to you last month, we are reaching out with a further update on our programming plans for the August summer season and the 2020-2021 main season.

While you will see changes in our traditional concert format and programming, we are inspired by the dynamic and inclusive ways we can reach you and new audiences. Our revised schedule and programming will also be designed to honor your current patronage and investment in the Grand Rapids Symphony. Please visit our FAQs for questions you may have.

August 2020 Summer Season
This summer, the Grand Rapids Symphony is coming to you with a new look to our Neighborhood Concert Series!  From porches to parks to sidewalks, you can experience LIVE music from the Grand Rapids Symphony up close and in person.  During August many of our wonderful orchestra musicians will be performing in their neighborhoods in the “From our Porch to Yours” series.  We are also partnering with selected neighborhood associations to perform short “Pop-Ups in the Park” concerts in several locations, allowing us to further connect throughout our community. Sponsors of the Neighborhood Concert Series make these performances possible.

For patrons who are interested in experiencing the gift of live music at their homes, we are excited to announce our “Sidewalk Serenade” series.  Musicians from the Grand Rapids Symphony will perform on your home sidewalk for you and your family/guests.  Availability for these performances is limited – more details on dates and costs will follow in the next week.

2020-2021 Main Season
Full details for our 2020-2021 main season will be announced in August.  But, we know this for sure - our orchestra will be reunited!  And you will be able to watch us either virtually or in-person as health and safety requirements allow.  Your current patronage and investment in the Grand Rapids Symphony will be honored for the 2020-2021 season programming.  Please click here for answers to frequently asked questions.

Performances this fall will be in venues that enable virtual live streaming and safe social distancing for you and our musicians.  While we will miss seeing you in DeVos Performance Hall this fall, we are eager to continue meeting you in these new ways, either virtually or eventually in person.  To that end, we have recently surveyed you regarding your desired concert experience.  We look forward to incorporating your voice as we finalize our program offerings and format.

Our Music Director Marcelo Lehninger, Associate Conductor John Varineau, and Principal Pops Conductor Bob Bernhardt will lead our innovative 2020-2021 artistic season.  Familiar artists will also highlight our performances with verve and imaginative creations. Music of all styles will be heard, like waves of hope leading us down our path of healing.

The Grand Rapids Symphony is your orchestra, and we are deeply committed to continuing our mission of delivering great music to you.  Now, more than ever, we will walk together to restore our collective wellbeing.  We look forward to our journey with you down this path!
