Mozart Two Rondos for Violin and Orchestra
Haydn Symphony No. 88
Beethoven Symphony No. 8

Marcelo Lehninger Conductor | Eric Tanner Violin

Pure joy suffuses this concert with music all in major keys, much of which was written for friends. Mozart wrote his violin rondos (and some of his violin concertos) for the Italian violinist Brunetti who was his colleague in Salzburg. Just a year after Haydn had his own great success with several symphonies written for the premiere Parisian concert series of the day Haydn wrote the Symphony No. 88 in 1787 for Johann Peter Tost so that the violinist and conductor could have pieces written expressly for him as a ‘calling card’ when he tried to set up his own concerts in Paris. As for Beethoven, he wrote the Symphony No. 8 in F major, his most serenely joyous symphony of all, simply for his own amusement!
