Wagner Prelude to Die Meistersinger
Mahler Songs of a Wayfarer
Sibelius Symphony No. 2

Rune Bergmann Conductor  | Marianne Kielland Mezzo-Soprano

Music can take us to real and imaginary places with its power to evoke time and space. These beautifully imagined concerts start in the medieval Germany of the troubadours and end in the vast forests of birch and pine in Scandinavia.  In the prelude to his only successful comedy Wagner paints a musical picture of a city in 16th Century Germany, all pomp and circumstance. Mahler, drawing on timeless folk poetry, recreates the loves and losses of ancient travelers. Then, in both song and symphony we venture to the frozen and solemn beauty of the Finland as of Sibelius, guided by a Norwegian conductor, as a Norwegian mezzo-soprano sings of the endless vistas of their homelands.
