Marcelo Lehninger Conductor | Phillipe Quint Violin
We welcome our incoming Music Director Marcelo Lehninger with the lush and exciting music of two towering Romantic Russian composers, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. Ending with a fiery Cossack dance the Tchaikovsky violin concerto is the most beloved violin showpiece of them all. This concerto scales the heights of technical brilliance and emotion. And speaking of emotion, no composer is better than Rachmaninoff in evoking a beautiful mix of nostalgia and longing. Marcelo Lehninger says of the Rachmaninoff Second Symphony: “to play this work is an important first step in building a relationship with the Richard and Helen DeVos Classical audience. This is a big, bold and beautiful Symphony with timeless melodies and vibrant rhythms that offers an ideal blend of artistic challenge for conductor and orchestra while delivering a rich musical reward to our audience”. The Second Symphony, written at the height of Rachmaninoff’s career as a composer is a panoramic Russian musical landscape designed to thrill you and transport you to that vanished world of Dr. Zhivago.
