Grand Rapids Symphony’s new Music Director Marcelo Lehninger is back for the first time since October with “Mozart, Mahler & Marcelo” on Feb. 3-4. Guest pianist Andrew von Oeyen, returns to Grand Rapids as soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major, and the Brazilian-born conductor also leads the orchestra in Mahler’s mighty Symphony No. 5 -- a big, brassy work that horn players salivate over. On the other hand, Mahler also wrote the fourth movement, scored only for harp and strings, as a love letter to his wife, Alma. It’s one of the most beautiful melodies he ever composed.
