Youth Choruses
The Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Choruses were officially recognized as an affiliate of the Grand Rapids Symphony Society in May of 2008. The three choruses form a graded choral program that exists to maintain a tradition of choral excellence for young people in West Michigan through extensive training and performance and to present quality performances of the choral and symphonic tradition with the Grand Rapids Symphony. Two training choirs, the Prelude Chorus and Junior Youth Chorus, are directed by Jackie Sonderfan Schoon. The senior ensemble, directed by Sean Ivory, aspires to professional musical standards and is known simply as the Youth Chorus. During the 2009-2010 Season the Choruses will perform four times with the Grand Rapids Symphony. The Youth Chorus will be featured in: “Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring,” Richard Einhorn’s “Voices of Light”, and Monteverd’s Vespers at the Cathedral of St. Andrew. The Junior Youth Chorus will appear on select Fifth Third Holiday Pops performances.
