Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus
The Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus was organized and founded in 1962 with the guidance and support of Mary Ann Keeler. Today, it is a volunteer organization of 125 members dedicated to achieving excellence in choral presentations. Under the direction of Dr. Pearl Shangkuan since 2004, the chorus has reached an admirable level of artistic choral performance.
The chorus performs major works with the orchestra during the Richard and Helen DeVos Classical Series and Fox Motors Pops Series concerts. The 2011-2012 season will feature the chorus in the third Lord of the Rings movie presentation in February, Beethoven's 9th Symphony in November and Mahler's Symphony No. 8 (Symphony of a Thousand) in April. The Nestle Gerber Holiday Pops will remain an annual event for the chorus.
Auditioning for the Chorus
The Chorus actively seeks new members who are experienced singers and
have music reading ability. New singers may join the Chorus throughout
the season by private audition which can be arranged by calling the Symphony office at (616) 454-9451, Ext. 140.
The chorus rehearses Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:45 during the academic year. We have been fortunate to use the chapel at Kuyper College as our rehearsal space.
If you enjoy singing and want to be part of an excellent musical ensemble, join us. It's even more thrilling from the stage!
Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Choruses
Young people looking for a chance to sing with the Grand Rapids Symphony are encouraged to explore the website of the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus. The GRSYC is an affiliate organization of the Grand Rapids Symphony and Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus. Students grades 1 through High School have the opportunity for a symphonic choral experience and training in one of our three choruses.
