Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture, Cannon, and Fireworks
This overture was written by Russian composer Pyotr Llyich Tchaikovsky in 1880. The piece was written to commemorate Russia's defense of Moscow against Napoleon's advancing army at the Battle of Borodino in 1812. The overture debuted in Moscow on August 20, 1882. The overture is best known for its climactic volley of cannon fire and ringing chimes, which you will experience live at our D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops! Our fantastic fireworks display begins as this piece ends, lighting up the sky above the Cannonsburg Ski Area hill.
