Ruth Bylsma
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL FLUTE
Ruth Bylsma has been Assistant Principal Flute with the Grand Rapids Symphony since 1974. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College and a Master of Music degree in performance from Michigan State University. Her principal teachers were Darlene Dugan, Judith Bentley, Russell Friedewald, and Israel Borouchoff. Ms. Bylsma is also a member of the GRS Wunderwind Quintet which performs educational concerts in area schools for K-6th grade. She also is involved in the Symphony's Mosaic Scholarship program as a flute instructor. Ruth has taught for Grand Valley State University, Calvin College, Cornerstone University, and has been teaching for Grand Rapids Community College since 2004.
Ruth is married to Gord Bylsma and they have three grown children.
